How do the various types of e-identification differ?
To meet different demands e-identification is issued in three levels:
Level 1 - soft e-identification
For advanced electronic signatures based on codification-keys protected in codified software.
Level 2 - hard e-identification
For advanced electronic signatures based on codification-keys protected in codified hardware (active cards or similar).
Level 3 - qualified e-identification
For qualified electronic signatures are required the requirements in level 2 together with demands for qualified certificates and safe arrangement for signature production as per the signature law.
The fact that swedish e-identification is based on the signature law means that it can be used to meet the legal demand for advanced signatures. Hereby it connects to the ongoing work with border-crossing services within the Common Market. This gives the e-identification an international connection and influences it in both a functional and a technical way.
